HARWINTON — Funeral services for Mrs. Madaleine (Barberet) Roy, of Lake Harwinton Road, were held Tuesday, June 1, at 8 a.m.from the Gleeson Mortuary, Torrington, to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church fora Mass at 9 a.m. Burial was in West Cemetery.

Mrs. Roy, widow of Charles Weingart and of Robert Roy, died Friday, May 28, at Torrington Extend-A-Care. She was born in Herimoncourt, France, daughter of the late Jules and Louise (Bilger) Barberet. She came to Oakville as a child and lived in Harwinton for more than 60 years. She served as assistant town clerk for 15 years, and was a member of the Board of Assessors for 30 years and as chairwoman acquired a state certificate for assessing, the first in Harwinton and the first woman in Connecticut to do so. She also was the registrar of voters for many years. She had been a member of the Connecticut Assessor's Association and the Litchfield County Tax Officials Association. She was a member of the Harwinton Republican Town Committee for 39 years, serving as vice chairwoman and secretary. She was a member of the Litchfield County Women's Republican Club and had been its vice president, secretary and treasurer. Mrs. Roy received a pin for hours of volunteer service at The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. She served as vice chairwoman of the Public Health Nursing Committee in Harwinton, and for 13 years was a member of the Harwinton Sundowners. For many years she was secretary to the Zoning Commission and still acted as a consultant and clerk for the group. Mrs. Roy was selected as the Arthur B. Poole Memorial Award recipient for 1988. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and had been a member of its choir since the church was founded. She was a member of the Ladies Society and had been its president, secretary and treasurer.

She leaves a son, Charles L. Weingart of Fort Plain, N.Y., a daughter, Jane Thrail of Harwinlon, three brothers, Jules Barberet of Oakville, Maurice Barberet of Watertown and Gene Barberet of Storrs, two sisters, Evelyn Fenn and Aliette Bilger, both of Watertown, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
