Obituary of Eugenia Dete Paquelet
Mrs. Eugenia Paquelet wife of Stephen Paquelet died at her home on Chapel Street Thursday morning (February 10 1903) at half past nine o'clock. She had been seriously ill for six weeks but the last few days she had made progress so favorably that her friends began to hope for her recovery. Thursday morning however she was seized with a sinking spell and passed away before the family physicians could reach the house. The report of her death produced a general expression of sorrow. Always genial and cheerful always considerate of the feelings of others she had made and kept many friends. In her home affection and home life she was particularly beautiful in her piety she was deep and serene. The blessing and presence of the Master were with her in her last illness and she was fully prepared to go. After death the crucifix was found tightly clasped in her hand. She was a faithful member of St. Louis Catholic Church where for thirty-six years she was a devout worshipper. As she lay in her home surrounded by beautiful flowers emblems of love and respect many people came to take a last look at the familiar features.
The funeral took place on Sabbath afternoon at two o'clock. The church was crowded with neighbors and friends. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor and friend the Reverend Father Senner. Mrs. Frank Frantz of Canton sang ' My Redeemer Liveth'. The remains were laid in their quiet resting place in the Catholic cemetery south of Louisville. Solemn requiem mass was said Monday morning for the soul of the departed.
Mrs. Paquelet was the daughter of Eugene and Christine Dete and was born in Gouhenan France October 9 1835. When nine years of age she with her parents ( and siblings ) came to America and located near Bloomfield Holmes County Ohio. August 20 1860 she was united in marriage to Stephen Paquelet the ceremony being performed in Glenmont Ohio where they resided for a time. In 1867 they came to Louisville and have since lived here. Mr. and Mrs. Paquelet were the parents of nine children seven of whom with their father survive. They are Mrs. A. A. Gruver of Glenmont Ohio Louis Paquelet of Canton Misses Mary Rose and Amelia and Frank and Charles Paquelet of Louisville.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hosfeld of Tiffin Mrs. Henry Davis of Cleveland John Dete and daughter Miss Josephine of Loudonville Mr. and Mrs. A. A. McCarty Joseph Rebillot Mrs. Roden and daughter Mary of Canton and Thomas Hately of St. Johns Michigan were in attendance at the funeral services.
