Auguste Séraphine Lomont (aka Séraphine) was born on May 30, 1842 in Branne, Dept Doubs, France. At the age of 8 he emigrated to the United States, sailing with his father and mother on the ship St. Nicholas from Le Havre, France to New York City, New York. He married Pauline Constance E. Lamboley (aka Polly) on November 22, 1866 in St. Louis Catholic Church, Besancon IN. Pauline was born on January 6, 1848 in France. They had seven children, three boys and four girls, Marie, Eugenia, Louis, Mariam, Alice, Eugene and Edward. Séraphine was a farmer. He was counted in a census in 1860/1870 in Jefferson Twp., Allen Co., IN. Séraphine died on June 4, 1884 in Allen County IN of injuries suffered in an accident in building a new barn. Although seriously injured, he survived several weeks. Séraphine wrote his will 19 May 1884. Séraphine is buried in St. Louis Catholic Church Cemetery, Besancon IN. Pauline died January 13, 1927 in Allen County IN
Pauline's parents were James and Melanie (Last Name Unknown) Lamboley.

Séraphine and Pauline may have lived on the Sarrazine farm on the Rorick road across from Alphonse's farm. He purchased a farm just east of the Sarrazine farm, now owned by Degon and Janus Frane, which he owned at the time of his death. This property had been purchased by Claude in 1866 and sold to his son in 1867. Seraphine built the brick house there now, in 1883, using the same general floor plans as the house built by his brother Alphonse (Justine and Emma's, now Knecht house) a short time earlier. Séraphine was destined not to enjoy his new house for long. In the spring of 1884, he was helping build his new barn when a beam slipped, critically injuring him. He survived for several weeks after the accident, having time to have a will written on May 19, 1884. He died of his injuries on June 4, 1884, leaving his widow Pauline and several children. The barn was just recently torn down (~2001) after several attempts to correct structural problems were not successful. The barn had been twisted in a windstorm back in the 1920's and time and weather eventually loosened the beams allowing the barn to slip off its foundation and lean dangerously. A little bit of Lomont history moved to northern Allen County since a group of Amish farmers took the barn down and are using the beams and siding in some of their homes.
