Mr. Edward Methiot was born in France Jan. 6 1837 coming to America at the age of 5 years with his parent who settled in Ohio living there for ten years when they came to Oregon by way of Cape Horn. His parents located on a farm near Butteville in this county which became hi home until the day of his death Saturday June 22 1912 at the age of 75 years 5 months and 16 days. He was married to Miss Julia Labbe of Portland Nov. 5 1872. Five children were born to this union two sons—William and Peter and three daughters—Mrs. John Mattieu and Mrs. Eva Smith all of Butteville and Mrs. Ben Quinn of Donald. He was a man of sturdy character strict honesty in all his dealings with his fellow men and respected by all his neighbors and friends. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife five children and thirteen grandchildren also one brother living in Tacoma Washington two sisters one in Portland Oregon the other in California and many other relatives and friends. In early life he united with the Lutheran church remaining a member until called to depart for the unseen shores of the land beyond. Funeral services were held in the Congregational church at Butteville Rev. T. T. Vincent of Woodburn officiating. The interment was in the Butteville cemetery. Among those in attendance at the funeral was Mr. Labbe the French consul at Portland who is a relative of Mrs. Methoit.
