Victor Kegresse, first of 11 children born to Christophe Kegresse & Marie Catherine Schoumaker, was fair haired & grey eyed and one of several brothers who migrated from Héricourt, France (Victor c. 1893). He was married Jan. 27, 1877 in Héricourt to Marie Bruch, and they had seven children, six born in Héricourt, but only two survived. They did not travel to America with him. 1) Marie Madeleine, b. Apr. 26, 1877 in Mulhouse. Her birth certificate is in German because Mulhouse is in Alsace-Lorraine which belonged to Germany in 1877. It states that she was born Apr. 26, 1877, but when she married Paul Georges Louys on July 2, 1898 in Héricourt, the marriage certificate has her DOB as Apr. 21. (Victor was absent from the wedding, and nobody knew where he was living.) 2) Stillborn boy b. March 3, 1878. 3) Stillborn boy b. March 8, 1879. 4) Jeanne Albertine b. Jan. 5, 1882, d. March 7, 1882. 5) Louise Emilie b. Aug. 15, 1884, d. Sept. 4, 1967, Lyon, France. Married Paul Marie Pobelle in Lyon on May 20, 1905. (Her mother, Marie Bruch, was still living but not present. Her father was also absent.) 6) Emile Victor b. Apr. 4, 1886, d. Aug. 27, 1886. 7) Anna b. Nov. 4, 1887, d. Aug. 27, 1891. At 1910 census, Victor was married to a Canadian woman named Danielle....but if he was, that would've made him polygamous. At 1920 census and age 66, he was living with Annie Lancelot Kegresse, 39, his brother Emile's widow, and her children. The census says they were married, but we do not know that. A second 1920 census shows them living with Anna's sister, Mary Caruba, so perhaps he was living with them to help support the family. (Death date was originally posted as Feb. 29, 1930, but 1930 was not a leap year, and counting back 75y 3m 14d would be Nov. 15, 1854. However, 1915 census has him born Nov. 1853, and birth record in France says Nov. 9, 1853.
