April 16 1897 West Monroe Mrs. Mary Degee died at her home in this town April 11th aged eighty-nine years after suffering untold agonies for fifty-one days. On Feb 19th she fell and dislocated her hip and injured herself otherwise. Since that time everything possible was done for her to alleviate her terrible pain but all in vain. Mrs. Degee was married and widowed twice. There were no children from the second marriage but from the first there are surviving three sons Peter Francis and Victor Piguet and five daughters Mrs. Catherine Cottet Mrs. Sarah (Phillip) Dick Mrs. Elizabeth (Lewis) Pickney Mrs. E. Guillaume and Mrs. Adeline (Edwin) West. There are fifty grandchildren fifty-nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild making one hundred and eighteen living descendants. Mrs. Degee leaves behind a record of being a good neighbor a kind and loving mother and grandmother. She was a devout member of the Catholic church. Her funeral took place April 13th at the Roman Catholic church at Litle France and burial was at the Catholic cemetery there.
